What fascia actually is

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and links your muscles, organs, nerves and vessels. It forms one continuous web through the whole body rather than a set of separate wrappers.

That is why tightness rarely stays in one spot. A stiff calf can show up as a sore foot. A guarded shoulder can pull on the neck. Sheli works the whole chain, not only the place that hurts.

Touch and pull the web

An illustration, not anatomy: pull one point and watch the tension travel.

The Modalities

Six ways in. One plan for your body.

Most sessions blend two or three of these. Tell Sheli what you feel and she picks the tools that fit.

Assisted leg stretch on the table Certified

Fascial Stretch Therapy

An assisted, table-based stretching method. Sheli moves your limbs through slow, pain-free ranges while you breathe, working through whole lines of tissue from the hips and spine out to the limbs.

Feels like: gentle, rhythmic traction. You stay fully clothed.

Seated assisted release with the client supported Certified

Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique

SMRT places a tight muscle in a position of comfort and holds it there, giving the nervous system a chance to let the muscle soften on its own. It is quiet, precise and very low force.

Feels like: being placed and supported, then a slow let-go.

Hands-on work along the calf and foot Hands On

Soft Tissue Manipulation

Classic massage strokes and myofascial work that glide, knead and hold across muscle and fascia, adjusted from light to deep based on what your body tolerates that day.

Feels like: steady, warming pressure that follows the tissue.

Cork massage ball, peanut ball and roller Hands On

Compression

Sustained, direct pressure on a tender point or band of tight tissue, held until it starts to ease. Often used on the knots people point to and say "right there."

Feels like: a focused "good hurt" that fades as you breathe.

Silicone cups placed across the upper back Tools

Cupping

Cupping is the opposite of compression. Instead of pressing down, cups use suction to lift and pull the tissue. That draws blood flow to the area and may help the layers of fascia slide and glide over each other, for easier, healthier range of motion.

A truly ancient technique: cupping appears in Egypt's Ebers Papyrus around 1550 BC, and in the writings of Chinese physician Ge Hong around 281 AD.

Feels like: a pulling stretch. Circular marks are common and usually fade.

Sheli rolling a steel tempering roller across a client's back Tools

Body Tempering

Heavy, smooth steel rollers are placed and rolled across large muscle groups while you lie still. The weight does the work, giving broad, even pressure that hands cannot match.

Feels like: a deep, heavy, full-body press. See it below.

Body Tempering

Weight instead of force.

Body tempering came out of strength sport, where athletes needed broad pressure on big, dense muscles like the back, glutes, quads and hamstrings. Sheli controls every roll, so the pressure stays steady and predictable.

  • Large areas covered in less time
  • Even pressure with no sharp points
  • A slow, heavy rhythm many people find calming

Questions

Before your first session

Where are sessions held?

In Oakhurst, New Jersey. The exact address is sent with your confirmation.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, stretchy clothes you can move in. Fascial stretch therapy and body tempering are done clothed. If your session includes oil-based massage or cupping, Sheli will walk you through draping first.

Will cupping leave marks?

Often, yes. Cupping commonly leaves round, bruise-like marks that typically fade over several days to about two weeks. If you have an event coming up, tell Sheli and she can skip cups or keep them off visible areas.

Does it hurt?

It should not. Some pressure can feel intense in a "good hurt" way, but you set the limit. Say the word and Sheli eases off. Relief does not require pain.

Is there anyone who should check with a doctor first?

Yes. Talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant, take blood thinners, have a bleeding or clotting disorder, have had recent surgery or a fracture, or have a skin condition in the area you want worked. Sheli may adjust or skip certain tools, such as cupping, compression or tempering, based on your health history.

Is this a replacement for medical care?

No. Bodywork can be a helpful part of feeling better, but it does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Sudden, severe or worsening pain, numbness or weakness should be checked by a medical provider.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule so the time can go to someone else.

How fast will Sheli confirm my request?

Within 24 hours or sooner. Texting gets the fastest reply: 732-859-8202.
